Welcome to weeklyhour - or at least, what will soon be weeklyhour. This site is part photography project, part blog, and what I hope will become a helpful resource to the photography community.
for the love of variety
I am a lover of variety, and photography is, despite all the ways people try to box it in and label what is “good” (myself included), one of the most diverse sources of expression in the modern world. It is increasingly accessible, and the tools available both before and after the capture of a moment have grown more powerful and affordable than many imagined just a few years past. This has also encouraged a sort of hyperactive photography, saturating our lives with snapshot-style photographs.
Along this vein, the weeklyhour project itself is a simple one - taking the time on a regular basis to appreciate a space and discover the many different ways a scene or area can be captured via different tools, techniques, composition, etc. Hopefully this proves a good growth experience for myself, and also a foundation for further discussion and projects in the future. Also, as I’ve found in the past, simply taking the time to stop, sit, and take in what’s around you can lead to discovery of secrets easily overlooked when simply taking snapshots in passing.
for the love of technology
I am also a lover of technology, and there is little I enjoy more that working with a new piece of equipment and discovering how it works, from basic function to the science that makes it tick. To this end I would also like to discuss the technology of photography new and old to give more insight into how equipment works, and even why sometimes it doesn’t quite work as one might expect.
for the love of photography
Most of all, weeklyhour is about celebration and appreciation of photography - and photographers - of all varieties. My wish is that this site will help add a little more to the community for a wide range of photographers and technophiles. Be sure to check back for more in the coming months.
